Total Defence Day 2012
This year marks the 70th anniversary of British’s surrender to the Japanese on 15 February 1942. Prior to Total Defence Day 2012, Class 5N2 began the commemoration with a presentation on the topic -Total Defence Day – It’s My Turn. Hua Yians were informed that by demonstrating the school values of Togetherness and Wisdom, they contribute to the Total Defence of the country.

On Total Defence Day, an Islandwide Sounding of the Public Warning System was activated to alert the population to an important broadcast on the radio.
The Sec 1 classes were introduced to the Ready Bag and they were informed on the importance of having a Ready Bag at home and what are the items they need to have in a Ready Bag.
The Sec 2 classes were involved in the In-Place Protection exercise, in which there were told to seal up their classrooms to protect themselves against the migration of harmful chemical into their classrooms.
National Service (NS) was highlighted in Total Defence Day 2012 as a vital part of the Singaporean way of life. The upper secondary classes were engaged in an activity ‘Think, Discuss, Dialogue’ where students took turns to answer different questions on the importance of National Service to the country.
